31 Ideas for Everlasting Summer Memories
Summer is a treasure trove of time for exciting adventures and reconnecting with your friends and family.
Mark your calendar with any of these summer activities that sound good to you for doing this year.
- Make Homemade Ice Cream – Spend the day in the kitchen creating your favourite ice cream flavours from vanilla to peanut butter. There are many recipes online for making ice cream and most ingredients can be found in your pantry. Then once you’ve created a batch, host a sundae party!
- Visit a Farmer’s Market – Have a browse at what local produce your community has to offer from food samples to handmade arts and crafts.
- Book a Last-Minute Staycation – If you get the urge to travel last minute but annual leave is limited and prices abroad are too extortionate, then why not book a staycation a couple of hours away in the next county? Explore an area you’ve not visited before and play tourist for the weekend.
- Play Games in the Park – Release your inner child and play nostalgic outdoor activities in your local park. For example, fly a kite, toss a frisbee, have a water gun fight, etc.
- Create a Personalised Jigsaw Puzzle – Photobox allows you to design a tangible keepsake of your most treasured memory and leaves you busy and entertained for hours as you assemble it.
- Join a Book Swap – This is a cost-effective way of acquiring new books and bonding over your favourite stories with friends, colleagues, etc.
- Declutter Your Home with 12-12-12 Method – Choose 12 items to throw away, donate 12 items, and tidily store away 12 things in your home.
- Attend a Sound Bath Meditation Session – Take the time to lie down and relax one afternoon, focusing only on the resonant sounds from singing bowls, chimes, gongs, and drums. Their tones and vibrations are believed to have therapeutic effects on your mind and body.
- Volunteer Locally – Give back to your community by donating your time to a cause that is important to you. For example, picking up litter and collecting items to donate to charity shops.
- Send a Video Message to a Loved One – Compose a thoughtful video message to one of your dearest family members or friends. You can share fond memories, gratitude, words of encouragement etc.
- Host a Scavenger Hunt – Find a ready-made scavenger hunt list on Etsy (or create your own) of activities for yourself and your friends to complete. This outing guarantees you a lot of laughs and fond memories.
- Start Scrapbooking – Why not start a new tradition this year of making a scrapbook to document your best summer memories? Add pictures and mementoes (like tickets and receipts), and jot down any memorable anecdotes. Next year, you’ll enjoy looking back and reminiscing on everything that’s been noted.
- Visit a Botanical Gardens – Admire and learn about the preservation of the world’s most marvellous plant species. You may also find special events and shows taking place during the summer.
- Take a Life Drawing Class – A unique experience that will improve your hand-eye coordination and observational skills. Lose yourself in the process of drawing.
- Go Cafe-Hopping – Select 2 or 3 unique cafes within a reasonable distance and spend your day moving from one to the next, experiencing the ambience and goodies they have to offer. Here are several fun cafe-hopping tips to make the most of the day.
- Start a New Hobby – There’s no better time than the present to throw yourself into a new activity that will bring you joy. For example, crocheting, baking, and more.
- Plan a No Spend Day – Set aside one day this summer with completely free activities. Alternatively, you can extend it to a No Spend Weekend.
- Trace Back Your Family Tree – Get a deeper understanding of your family’s history and origins by talking to your elders and tracing back your family tree. You may learn some cool facts about your great-grandparents and other relatives.
- Go on a Walking Tour – Depending on your budget, you can join a tour group or find the directions online and guide yourself independently. There are many options to consider, from historical and pop culture-themed to nature walks. Not to mention, this is a low-impact exercise which will give you a nice dopamine boost.
- Treat your Partner to a Picnic Date – Take them to a secluded park and pack their favourite nibbles and drinks, and bond with games, cloud watching etc.
- Host a “Who-Knows-Who-Better” Trivia Game – Invite your nearest and dearest to find out once and for all who knows who best with humorous questions and riddles.
- Listen to a new Audiobook – Currently, I’m listening to Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power (recommended by my Aunt), which is quite motivational. Alternatively, there are thousands of other great titles to choose from.
- Attend a Bouquet Creation Workshop – Spend a couple of hours with a smile on your face as you are surrounded by beautiful and scented flowers. Learn the different variations, and create and take home a beautiful flower arrangement.

- Watch a Beloved Series (or Film) with a Drinking Game – This is a fun social activity which will leave you buzzed and laughing. Create your own drinking rules or find existing ones online. I’m in the middle of Peaky Blinders and my favourite rule is to down it whenever a Shelby says: “By order of the Peaky Blinders!”

- Try your Luck at the Casino – Enjoy the glitz and glam of a live casino and test your luck with a round of blackjack or roulette. Going to casinos can be a fun social experience if you practice safe gambling like setting and sticking to a budget. Other than that, who doesn’t like free money?
- Upgrade an Area in Your Home – Pick a section in your home which has been neglected and reorganize it or update the decor and equipment. This could be a complete room like your spare room/office or a small area such as your coffee selection or bookshelf.
