At first, she thought his pet names were cute and endearing.
She loved being his ‘babe’, ‘darling’, and ‘love’.
That was until she noticed that he had a habit of casually calling other women the same. “Want a beer, babe?” or “Thanks, love.”
One evening at a party, she caught him chatting in the corner with another woman.
As she approached them, she overheard their conversation end with “bye, darling.”
“Who is she?” she gestured with a nod towards the departing woman.
He pecked her lips, chuckling. “I don’t know,” he replied truthfully and took a gulp of his beer. “Called her ‘darling’ because I can’t remember.”
She looks at him suspiciously and raises an eyebrow. “What’s my name?”
He took a guess.
It was wrong.
