Daily Prompt #9

What makes a teacher great?

I believe that a great teacher is defined by their patience and ability to connect with their students.

The teachers that I remember fondly from secondary school were those that took an active approach in their students’ lives and interests.

For example, my Year 11 English teacher heard that I enjoyed creative writing and asked to read one of my short stories outside of her work hours. She then sat with me and provided constructive feedback for improvement and later encouraged me to pursue it in higher education.

It was an act of kindness that made me feel seen and filled with motivation.

Teachers are an important role model in our community and should be appreciated more for their hard work and compassion towards their students.
